Mansour A. Safai
Mansour A. Safai Memorial Fellowship Fund
In memory of Mansour A. Safai, and in tribute to him and his passion for, and accomplishments in the field of software development, his family members and friends are raising gifts to establish a new endowed fund at Stanford University, to be known as The Mansour A. Safai Memorial Fellowship Fund.
My brother Mammad and I have initiated the funding of Mansour’s fellowship, and our goal is to raise at least $1,000,000 for this endeavor and support graduate students in the field of computer science at Stanford University. We are proud to advise that Mansour Safai’s memorial fund was established at Stanford University on December 3rd 2006.
We hope that you share our desire to honor Mansour in this manner, and that you are also inclined to contribute to his fellowship fund.
Gifts made to the Board of Trustees of the Leland Stanford Junior University (“the Board”), an educational institution, for this purpose may, for investment purposes, be merged with any of the general investment assets of Stanford University, but they shall be entered in the University’s books and records as an endowed fund known as The Mansour A. Safai Memorial Fellowship Fund (“the Fund”). The Board shall spend so much of the Fund income and appreciation as it shall determine reasonable to provide fellowships for graduate students enrolled in the School of Engineering at Stanford University, with a preference for students in the Department of in Computer Science. The amount and terms of each fellowship, and the recipient thereof, shall be determined by such University authority as may be designated by the Board for that purpose.
Although it is expected that gifts to the Fund will significantly exceed $250,000, the minimum for establishing an endowed fund of this type, if the Fund does not receive gifts totaling $250,000 by December 31, 2011, gifts made for this purpose shall be fully expendable and shall be used to provide fellowships for graduate students in Computer Science at Stanford University. The amount and terms of each fellowship, and the recipient thereof, shall be determined by such University authority as may be designated by the Board for that purpose.
Donors to the Fund understand that, through the generosity of certain donors to the University who wish to encourage gifts of endowment for graduate fellowships, if the gifts from all donors to the Fund total $500,000 or more on or before December 31, 2011, the gifts may qualify for matching funds on a 1:1 basis. Any matching money available as a result of gifts to the Fund shall be added to the Fund.
